A high rankings in the search engines comes from off page optimization. After I write articles for my website, I come up with a SEO plan to rank well in the search engines. When you look at SEO it is different than traffic. When looking at traffic I think of using social media to promote my website. Many of the social media websites will bring visitors to your site without using your SEO keywords.
This is what I learned from these podcast interviews. I use to post links in directories, but I shy away from them now. I’ll still probably use some of the top ones, then cross my fingers that I’ll get traffic from them. It hasn’t really shown the return that I thought it would bring. But if I’m doing directories, I tend to go for the niche ones.
I have software that finds high PR websites and approach my link building by using that tool. I take a look at the competition and I see where their links are coming from and I’ll try and do the same exact thing.
When it comes to keywords I’ll take a look at my list and see which ones I’m going after from the competition point of view. Then I’ll say, is it worth my time and effort that it’s going to cost me to rank well for them. I look at the whole structure of my website and determine through testing if that’s the keyword that will work best for me. If you have a set system in place, you are bound to be successful.
Next, I’ll take a look at the longer tailed keywords and I’ll start driving traffic to my website. If you take the words that don’t have that much competition, you’ll start to build up a steady flow of traffic.
I do exactly what the competition is doing. It’s pretty hard to find out, but there are pieces of software out there now that will help you with this task. Now I’ll link from the same places they are linking from. Sometimes it has to do with people. So I try and become friends with the same people they are friends with and see about doing some kind of joint venture.
You see many times where the competition is creating their own ranking. They’re building other portals that are bringing them high up in the search engines. It gives you a good idea of what you’re up against. In the end, I see that I’ll need x amount of links going to my website to out rank that website.
I tend to focus on article marketing. When I do this I don’t go out and submit my articles to all of the directories, I’ll just stick with the bigger ones. I like doing the articles because that helps me out with my high rankings. People take that article and post it on their website and point the URL back to your site.
